Children’s Mental Health Week

On Thursday we were visited by Lucy Aston from Yogadoo. She hosted a whole school assembly on how to keep ourselves happy and healthy. Lucy highlighted the link between our physical and mental health - we need to focus on activities which develop both! She taught us the ‘Take 5’ Method to help us slow our breathing down by tracing around our outstretched right hand with the forefinger of our left (ask your children to demonstrate). We also tried laughing and ocean breathing to boost our internal happiness. We hope to develop Lucy’s work in future sessions, if you would like to learn more about her classes visit

This assembly compliments the work we have been doing with the children during our ‘Wellbeing Wednesday’ sessions. Launched in September, these are half hour weekly slots dedicated to experiencing a variety of health focused activities, thinking about wellbeing in the context of the wider world and our impact on the environment. Activities have included School in a Bag fundraising, meditation, writing gratuity notes, learning sign language and music sessions.

Parents and carers also play an important role in teaching children and young people how to understand and manage their feelings.
